Roses are Roses and Lilies, Lilies!
Still I remember one of my friends, envied often for she had a patch on the left side of her uniform shirt below the collar. There was a patch because of frequent fastening of the badge for she won first rank in all the year round examinations. Once I too got that blue badge on my dress code but not frequently enough to scar my ujala dipped white shirt.
The badge rip up not only the shirt of the triumphant friend but also the tender heart of the elementary learner who failed to accomplish it. That disheartened girl and the victim of the rat race, remains pink in the heart of the middle aged.
Once upon a time, making grades was the ideal way to impress teachers and the cynosure amidst the relatives. The badged and complimented solely shall glimmer in the dark sky, brushing aside the falling stars and the lurking stars in the constellation.
Poets have sung about Roses and Lilies, deducing that Lotus is the best for possessing the qualities of aforementioned flowers. Comparison is the villain. It serves the measuring rod to one's grade. Always forgotten fact is that no one is like anyone and never can be. Even the thumb impression is unique. Children may not be objectified and victimized to touchstone analysis.
Educational qualifications and marks shall not be the only criterion for counting the quality. The world witnesses IITians quitting their sought-after professions and undertaking unembellished means of livelihood!!!
Time is due, to renounce the prevalent customary set standards that decide the status identified with the documents in the file.
May this Navratri lit up the wick of enlightenment among us wiping out the darkness of widespread misconceptions of grades, marks and scores!!!
A message that was long due.......though I belong to that generation who always wore the badge as a mark of achievement! Great thought Ms. Saritha, we have a long way to go.....
ReplyDeleteWell written . That's why most of the jobs don’t care about the gifted individuals who are highly intelligent and top in their grades, they care about the people who aren’t going to quit when things get hard and show resilience when given a challenging task.

ReplyDeleteExactly... Every child is unique.. They should be assessed on what they are good at.. This reward system based on academic performance has curbed the growth of students who are skilled in diverse fields.
ReplyDeleteA class room atmosphere that knock out such comparisons should be encouraged.. The Curriculum should be redefined.. Let every one sing their voice out.. Let every flowers bloom.. Indeed..
Roses are Roses and 'Lilies are Lilies' ...!!!
Thank you 😊
DeleteGreat words Saritha Ma'am.. A Great writer who can hook and relate to every reader is inside you.. Let it out.. And enlighten us with more of such priceless writings ..♥👏👏
DeleteThank you Nihal🙏. These words serve as drizzling to the yet to sprout seeds within.
DeleteThank you Vinitha Mam and Pradeep. Your words are blessings in disguise
ReplyDeleteGreat thought. I sincerely wish that these ideals are implemented at our schools. Research analysts have said that 80 percent of the times, it is the attitude of the individual which makes him successful than his academic grades. So it is prudent not to push our kids to reign over their fellow mates.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandeep😊.
DeleteAcacdemically profitable thoughts to mark a new Harishree. May we all be capable of taming the tyranny of 'merit'! Best wishes for the blog!
ReplyDeleteGreat teachers always inspire, nurture and empower people around them. A Guru Dakshina to you, Sir!
DeleteBeautiful maam... Do continue writing such wonderful lines...
ReplyDeleteThank you dear😊
DeleteWell written Saritha Ma'am. Each of the lines are well put; accurate and hence perfect. As you have put forth the line-"Comparison is the villain", I would like to say that it is absolute and so, understanding this as such can make difference. A writer like this can make things happen because a writer choose to write for a change; for himself or for others. Thank you so much for your words Ma'am and hope for more from you.
ReplyDeleteSujisha❤️
DeleteWell penned ma'am❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you ☺️
DeleteComparison has, and will always be the villian unless we try and inculcate the opposite of comparison in kids, to not look for differences, to instead look at things which are already present and could be worked upon.
ReplyDeleteThis is relatable to the core ma'am. How as a teenager the school made a few of us proud for simply scoring good thn our classmates or how at times we couldn't really wish and be happy for others because their achievements somewhere meant our failure (that's how it is being taught time and again ).
Thankyou for writing this ma'am ❤️. Waiting to read more.
Thank you 😊
DeleteOfcourse. This was how the seedlings intolerance was sawed and reaped then.
ReplyDeleteInsightful thoughts Miss. Loong way to go.. Let not thunders shock you to shrink back to the cocoon again. Let the sparks sprout and bloom. All the best for the blog❤️❤️
Thank you ☺️
DeleteAs a genius mind once said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
ReplyDeleteI wish after reading this lovely article, people will start appreciating a person for what they ARE and motivate the person to do what they CAN.

DeleteWonderful Saritha. You put it very simply - comparison is the villain. Non adherence to this statement is the biggest issue in today's educational system. Each has talent of his/her own and that is what is to be encouraged. Yday in a debate I heard a participate say "you cannot compare apples to pineapples". Lets hope the New Education Policy that is coming up will show a change.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Saritha.
Thank you Viju Etta.
DeleteWell penned Saritha mam. Best wishes. Keep going.
